{"id":25446,"date":"2015-11-30T12:52:41","date_gmt":"2015-11-30T15:52:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/?p=25446"},"modified":"2015-12-03T09:28:45","modified_gmt":"2015-12-03T12:28:45","slug":"museu-de-favela-holds-crowdfunding-campaign-to-tour-women-warriors-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/?p=25446","title":{"rendered":"Museu de Favela&#8217;s &#8216;Women Warriors&#8217; Exhibition Seeks Support to Tour Brazil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1RpeCEq\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>Clique aqui para Portugu\u00eas<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-23766\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/PT-e1439583827971.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/12tBBGp\" target=\"_blank\">Museu de Favela (MUF)<\/a>, a non-profit territorial museum\u00a0founded in 2008 by community leaders in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1rIlhJj\" target=\"_blank\">Cantagalo<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1lU6eQ0\" target=\"_blank\">Pav\u00e3o-Pav\u00e3ozinho<\/a>\u00a0in Rio\u2019s South Zone, is promoting a crowdfunding campaign to tour their Mulheres Guerreiras (Women Warriors) art exhibition across\u00a0Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>Since\u00a02011, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1NYdW3q\" target=\"_blank\">Museu de Favela<\/a> has honored women who are considered \u201cwarrior women\u201d in these favelas. \u201cThe women can be nominated by other community members, nominated by a MUF worker, or nominate themselves,\u201d says Rita Santos, current manager of the project. They have received invitations to exhibit the project from all over Brazil, including museums in major cities like S\u00e3o Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Fortaleza. However, the host institutions\u00a0do not have a budget available bring the exhibition to their audiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone loves the Women Warriors project.\u00a0There are women warriors all over the world, in Mexico, in other countries\u2026in Rio, in the suburbs,&#8221; said Rita Santos. &#8220;We want to take this exhibition to inspire other regions of Brazil and the world to exhibit their women warriors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition contains artwork with each woman\u2019s story written on it and\u00a0visitors can see the evolution of these works\u00a0from the beginning of the project. The works tell the unique story of each woman, often featuring difficult moments they\u2019ve had to overcome\u00a0to be where they are today.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25545\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25545\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/16608118828_d651d9a053_k.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-25545\" title=\"Rosimary: \u201cThe first good thing I had was my children. And the second was opening\u00a0my own business.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Of the crowdfunding campaign Santos said: \u201cWe are not asking for a lot. We are just asking for baggage costs and airfare&#8211;with just that the exhibition will make its way across Brazil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The goal for this is R$31,350. However, if they do not reach their goal\u00a0the funds will be directed to maintaining the Women Warriors project and other MUF activities.<\/p>\n<p>Ruth Batres, a student from UCLA who is assisting Santos, called on people to donate: \u201cWe have the power to help the MUF expand their network allowing them to share these amazing stories with\u00a0many more people.\u201d There are a range of gifts available to donors, including postcards, calendars and books.
