In a\u00a0period of intensified conflict\u00a0police suffer too, and research shows Rio&#8217;s Military Police have <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1TwGLra\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/3c9dc1c82a&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF0RK5Q6yIA-k-buPw1j_HccPBahA\">higher rates of suicide<\/a> than the rest of the population.\u00a0The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/277utih\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/7465f2f346&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHx1tHE6DJMqhjfrLE6l0jXeGVViA\">ComPosi\u00e7\u00f5es Pol\u00edticas art exhibit<\/a>\u00a0responded to the question of State violence and its representation in the media, while one of the exhibits itself\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1pWFOQq\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/bb0d02b5eb&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEoJhGwebsPJ7r-t7rolSkUgPVFLg\">sparked controversy<\/a>\u00a0over racism in representations of violence.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit also featured Vila Aut\u00f3dromo, where construction on new houses has begun and will <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1WHuWDY\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/5c9fa38730&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE9G1g0OhulczYRnIj9jRCxTx0BxA\">leave very little<\/a> of the original favela behind. Two great successes this month, however, were the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/244DsMA\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/d1edef19d9&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHbotKovGiAf-ZCwv_1KSdHvG-YUg\">launch of the Evictions Museum<\/a>\u00a0and the awarding of the Rio State Assembly&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1XwBhBN\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/f1f2aeedaa&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEArmXTZLJ3XkshUjQyLVAbO5uJKw\">first-ever Dandara Award<\/a>\u00a0to former resident Heloisa Helena for her struggle.<\/p>\n<p>On a visit to Parque Carioca public housing\u00a0<em>RioOnWatch<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/25xjkFu\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/d754d3e3af&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEtV_ye5_VB1edNuVJ-BlwUCkrWhw\">heard from former Vila Aut\u00f3dromo residents<\/a> who are frustrated with their new lives there. Meanwhile, remaining residents of Praia do Sossego faced the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1TtBU9A\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/929364cc69&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFchZUkzODsncaFNwzOaXzdu49BJg\">threat of imminent eviction<\/a> without a guarantee of public housing as compensation, and 83% of Niter\u00f3i families displaced in\u00a0landslides in 2010\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1qe65tn\" target=\"_blank\">still await promised housing<\/a>.\u00a0The right to housing is <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1OzrB24\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/681f5225b7&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGAz9ZKL8nbcS5aw0g4GuF_RlO4cA\">guaranteed at all levels<\/a> of Brazilian law. But\u00a0challenges facing ongoing urban occupations from <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1Nvsaiu\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/e409ccb524&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFpoYBCTEr8oF7QSIe0fQXUK7A5pg\">S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1sjTiYk\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/acc1c6b368&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGXdmkPZUJsa6NUjm9Ht2l3JQvgWA\">Rio<\/a> show that right is not truly guaranteed for all.<\/p>\n<p>Occupations continue at State public schools too,\u00a0with Rio\u00a0student occupiers <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/24DiQNL\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/3c2714651d&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGQ_L4soRe7pRwJgVbbrLa1YamdyQ\">connecting in solidarity<\/a> with counterparts in other states as <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/20egqSu\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/53c0fe9364&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGBlFxbJfkYPnb4mXlX_BFx5P2LKg\">aggression<\/a> towards their activism rises.<\/p>\n<p>This past month also saw rising\u00a0concerns about\u00a0the interim president&#8217;s policies <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1Ttl1P2\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/8c6e3ecc14&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE6vLaZAsDQuiGj9M1Dfs2inVQtDw\">threatening\u00a0key social programs<\/a> including public housing and PAC investment projects. The city&#8217;s stalled\u00a0Morar Carioca program\u00a0may still be implemented in Pica-Pau and neighboring communities following a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1sgLtTw\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?CatalyticCommunities\/0462310a93\/f622a52b65\/37e2b1c099&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1465092907186000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHsP6C9Q9ME9W0xp0Z8-OxUF_Ztgw\">launch<\/a>\u00a0this month.
