The event aimed to discuss <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1xKz1wb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">racial<\/a> equality in corporations\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2alCmJC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the inclusion<\/a>\u00a0of the black population in the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1kw4ats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">labor market<\/a> and in <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1a40Qzc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">education<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Forum was organized by the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2eYMtYD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instituto ID_BR<\/a> (Identities of Brazil Institute), a non-profit organization committed to the development of <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1um7WLt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">human rights<\/a> and focused on racial equality.<\/p>\n<p>On the event&#8217;s opening day, the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1z07GG6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cais do Valongo<\/a>\u00a0bid to be a World Heritage site\u00a0was presented by anthropologist Milton Guran. Considered one of the main ports of entry of the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1Oj7wi1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">slave trade<\/a>, where one million enslaved Africans disembarked in Rio de Janeiro, the Cais do Valongo was elevated to Cultural Heritage Status by\u00a0the City&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1nbZbml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instituto Rio Patrim\u00f4nio da Humanidade (IRPH)<\/a> on November 20, 2013, and its candidacy for World Heritage site has been accepted by UNESCO. Their decision is expected in June 2017.<\/p>\n<p>In Brazil <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2esttRy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than half the population is black<\/a>, however racial <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1qbJV72\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inequality<\/a> among whites and blacks is alarming.<\/p>\n<p>Luana Gen\u00f3t, founder of the Instituto ID_BR\u00a0presented the Yes to Racial Equality seal and affirmed that &#8220;debating racial equality with companies is urgent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/F\u00f3rum-2-1.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-33972 size-content aligncenter\" title=\"Luana Gen\u00f3t, founder of the Instituto ID_BR presents the Yes to Racial Equality seal. Photo by Eduardo Biermann\" width=\"620\" height=\"264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/F\u00f3rum-2-1-620x264.jpg 620w, https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/F\u00f3rum-2-1-940x400.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Companies such as <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2fX3eFM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">White Martins<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2eKd8ou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Schneider Electric<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2fqMK4s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Great Place to Work<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2fqNxCs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coca-Cola<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2esnaOa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1YgEEPz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rede Globo<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2estc17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instituto Ethos<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2eiS4oB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Locomotiva Instituto de Pesquisa<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2fIE24O\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rio+ B<\/a>\u00a0explained their positions in relation to the issue of race.<\/p>\n<p>The event included three debate tables on the theme. At the first discussion, titled &#8220;Racial equality in administration and corporate organizational culture,&#8221; representatives from White Martins and Schneider Electric participated. According to Carolina Werneck, communications manager at White Martins, &#8220;the strategy for valuing\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1ek4zAV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diversity<\/a> at White Martins contributes directly to the company&#8217;s strong competitiveness in the market. Christiane Pinto from Google presented the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2esnaOa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AfroGooglers program<\/a>, which promotes training for black youth to be able to work at the company.<\/p>\n<p>The last discussion\u00a0titled &#8220;From theory to practice of Yes to Racial Equality: an action plan and indicators of impact,&#8221; featured Instituto Ethos, Locomotiva Instituto de Pesquisa and <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2eZdqLQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sistema B<\/a>. Renato Meirelles from Locomotiva presented research data such as the representation of 0.6% of black women in large companies.<\/p>\n<p>For Gabriela Valente from Sistema B, the indicators for measuring action towards the promotion of racial equality will only be effective when the black population is in the same place to discuss it.<\/p>\n<p>The first Yes to Racial Equality Forum had some initial victories like: the increase in the number of full scholarships in English courses for black students at language tuition company <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2esrKvv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cel Lep<\/a>; companies like <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2e6hj2f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Serasa<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2eZbRNP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brownie do Luiz<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2fgQM2f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Karamello Rio<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2fm4NI9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fundo HIG\/Cel Lep<\/a> who said yes to racial equality; Sistema B committed, along with with ID_BR, to study ways of engaging <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2fqXDDt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">B Corps<\/a>\u00a0in racial equality; and the Museum of Tomorrow committed to hosting the event for the next edition in 2017.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tha\u00eds Rosa Pinheiro has a Masters degree in Social Memory from UNIRIO and is the founder of the community-based tourism agency <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2e8iLkB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Conectando Territ\u00f3rios<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Clique aqui para Portugu\u00eas The first Yes To Racial Equality Forum was hosted at the Museum of Tomorrow on October 26.
