The FAIM is a festival that exhibits art\u2014from photography to film, music to artisanal crafts\u2014and everything the periphery is capable of producing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/faim2-e1574873307991.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56908 size-content\" title=\"The FAIM gathered residents and artists of all ages. Visitors were greeted on arrival with the sight of children playing on a trampoline, along with the sounds of <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/35smm39\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kalebe Nascimento<\/a>, Felipe Lobo, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/37ojdn8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jo\u00e3o Azevedo<\/a>, Lu\u00eds Fernando, and the group <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2NZN1ia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barrac\u00e3o<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/faim3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56907 size-content\" title=\"Kalebe Nascimento and Felipe Lobo bringing music to the FAIM. Inside, the work of various photographers and artists from the region set the tone for the day: Friday in Imbari\u00ea was a day for celebrating life and contemplating visual beauty.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/faim4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56906 size-content\" title=\"Participants interacting with the work of Victor Vieira. Vieira said that the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2CZNieI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">path of gold<\/a>, a name given to a stone trail from the Baixada city of <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/30uPzsk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mag\u00e9<\/a> north to <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2ymCRPR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Petr\u00f3polis<\/a>, built by slaves in the 18th century, could also be found in people&#8217;s faces, in their glow. Paulino is a wanderer among the arts and education. Like a good teacher, he is an observer, and sees the potential in others. With this in mind, in his wanderings around arts and education\u2014giving workshops on art, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2qEdSYh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fanzines<\/a> and cartography, and making his knowledge available to the community\u2014he gathered a group of friends and began the festival in 2017.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/faim8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56902 size-content\" title=\"Osmar Paulino, creator of the FAIM. Our work takes place throughout the year, as we hold workshops in peripheral art in public schools in the region. The FAIM is the culmination of this work. Luana Santos, an artist and teacher in the municipal school network of the neighboring city of Mag\u00e9, believes that the FAIM is important because it allows youth to develop a sense of belonging. &#8220;We need something like this in my city,&#8221; said Santos, who exhibited her work at the event.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/faim10.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56900 size-large\" title=\"Luana Santos next to her work. Festival visitors also noted an incentive for independent production and debate around culture as a creative economy. &#8220;Imbari\u00ea is the periphery of the periphery of Caxias, and here is an art exhibit produced by a group of black people that is building subjectivity in their presentation and economic production,&#8221; said Wesley Teixeira, a resident of Caxias and coordinator of the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2UUrSH1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">+N\u00f3s popular college entrance exam prep course<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/faim11-e1574873545748.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56899 size-content\" title=\"Fl\u00e1vio and Rodrigo of BF Uni\u00e3o Ativa; Wesley Teixeira of +N\u00f3s; Jefferson Barbosa of CartaCapital; and Henrique Silveira of Casa Fluminense. For Barbosa, the festival brought all of this together. &#8220;The FAIM is a space that showcases the future, that allows us to have hope for the space that we live in. It is really beautiful to see everyone here. What makes this festival different from the others, said Duarte, is the neighborhood&#8217;s simultaneous presence of drug traffickers and high-potential artwork. &#8220;The contrast caught my attention,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/faim13-e1574873645444.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56897 size-content\" title=\"Rodrigo Duarte, teacher and resident of Mag\u00e9. I am really, really happy to be here today,&#8221; said Maria.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/faim14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56896 size-content\" title=\"Bruna Maria. Cyntia Matos, an activist for the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2ry5BoR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">solidarity economy<\/a>, also collaborates with the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/37mzoB0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tia Ang\u00e9lica project<\/a>, which has worked in children&#8217;s education for decades in the neighborhood of Parque Paulista, in Duque de Caxias. For Matos, &#8220;the FAIM is a space for art and education and is a landmark for the city, which is a place known only for violence. Barbosa, excited, said that the FAIM is a gathering space where &#8220;good new things&#8221; are happening.
