The event was part of commemorations for Brazil&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/30Hjyht\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trans Visibility Day<\/a> (January 29) and was organized by the Baphos Perif\u00e9ricos collective in partnership with the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/30EzukM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Special Coordinator for Sexual Diversity<\/a> (CEDS Rio) and the Municipal Secretariat of Culture (SMC).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos2.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-57690 size-large\" title=\"Photo: Gabriel Loiola\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos2-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"411\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos2-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos2-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos2-768x509.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos2.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The event, which took place under the motto &#8220;Transbordar&#8221; (a play on the Portuguese word for &#8220;overflow&#8221;), featured artistic, musical, and audiovisual expressions focused on the affirmative and identity-based construction of what it is to be trans and transvestite, especially for residents of the peripheries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-57689 size-content\" title=\"The evening was filled with artistic performances. Photo: Gabriel Loiola\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos3-620x264.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos3-620x264.jpg 620w, https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos3-940x400.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The evening opened with the words of <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/37gRO5T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quitta Pinheiro<\/a>, transvestite from Nova Igua\u00e7u\u2014a city in Rio&#8217;s outer <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2XCwX7z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baixada Fluminense<\/a> region\u2014communicator at the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1q7S5Bo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Galp\u00e3o Bela Mar\u00e9<\/a> arts center, and founder of the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2AFyroZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baphos Perif\u00e9ricos collective<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-content wp-image-57688\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos4-620x264.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos4-620x264.jpg 620w, https:\/\/rioonwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/baphos4-940x400.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pinheiro spoke of the importance of reaffirming trans identities in peripheral territories and of the importance of bringing these peripheries to other territories. &#8220;We are born of the Baixada Fluminense. We grew out of the need for a project that truly promotes LGBTI+ artists in the territory itself. It was really important to put together, for the Parque das Ru\u00ednas, a program made up entirely of trans artists from the Baixada.
