During the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3TTDqsf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022 election cycle<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3Ff4Q7m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Juliana Drummond<\/a>, a history teacher from <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2Ss2N5T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o de Meriti<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3VnKAWI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rose Cipriano<\/a>, a math teacher from <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/PUezEC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Duque de Caxias<\/a>, were candidates for Federal Deputy and State Deputy respectively. Educator <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3ubrp6C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leci Carvalho<\/a> from the Austin neighborhood in the municipality of <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2XIp04O\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nova Igua\u00e7u<\/a> didn&#8217;t run in 2022 but reports the difficulties she faced during the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2cVc1Uy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2016<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/36pW7Nd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020<\/a> elections when she ran for mayor of Nova Igua\u00e7u.<\/p>\n<p>None of the three women were elected. However, Juliana Drummond received 4,181 votes and became an alternate for Federal Deputy, and Rose Cipriano received 13,699 votes and became a State Deputy alternate. This means that thanks to the strong vote share they received, should deputies of the same party stand down or require substitution for any reason, they could be appointed to the role. This may happen by 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The three activists share a lot in common and reflect on the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3AUSPjZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">structural racism<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/28UUXem\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sexism<\/a> which historically permeates election processes in the Baixada Fluminense. The mini-doc also describes the racism present in the distribution of political party election budgets when it comes to Black female candidates as compared to white female candidates.
