Twenty-one-year-old resident of Cesarão (in the West Zone), Saulo Araújo Marques dos Santos, cites countless examples of state negligence in his community, a housing development of seven thousand homes—the biggest in Latin America. If the easy-going Saulo continues on his professional path, he’ll become a sports reporter but he speaks seriously about his plans to use his Literature degree from the Universidade Veiga de Almeida (UVA) to help his and other communities gain their rightful place within the fabric city.
